🌍 CFA Franc Banknotes – A Shared Currency Across West and Central Africa

Used by 14 African nations, the CFA Franc is a symbol of regional unity, economic cooperation, and cultural diversity.

The CFA Franc (Communauté Financière Africaine) is one of the most widely circulated currencies in Africa, issued in two distinct but equivalent forms:

West African CFA Franc (XOF) – used by 8 countries in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU)

Central African CFA Franc (XAF) – used by 6 countries in the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC)

Though the two currencies are not interchangeable, they are both guaranteed by the French Treasury and issued by regional central banks:

BCEAO – Banque Centrale des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (West Africa)

BEAC – Banque des États de l’Afrique Centrale (Central Africa)
