Description

2007 South Korea 10,000 Won Banknote – Sejong the Great & Celestial Wisdom

Pick# 56 | Numista# 203421

Issued by the Bank of Korea, the 2007 10,000 Won note is a tribute to Korea’s intellectual legacy and astronomical heritage. Featuring a brown serial number with double-letter prefix, this note is part of the Series VI and remains in circulation—making it a modern classic for collectors who value cultural depth and scientific symbolism.

Design Highlights

Obverse: Portrait of King Sejong the Great, the visionary 15th-century monarch who created Hangul, Korea’s native script. Behind him is the Irworobongdo, a royal folding screen symbolizing cosmic harmony, and text from Yongbieocheonga, the first Korean work written in Hangul.

Reverse: A stunning depiction of the Honcheonsigye (celestial globe clock), crafted in 1669 by Song I-yeong, alongside the Cheonsang Yeolcha Bunyajido, a 14th-century Korean star map. These elements reflect Korea’s historical contributions to astronomy and timekeeping.

Color Scheme: Deep green with multicolored underprint, enhanced by holograms, latent images, and UV-reactive features.
