Description

United States 1 Dollar Federal Reserve Note – George Washington & Green Seal (2017A Series)

Pick# 471 | Numista# 205 | Series 2017A

Issued by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the 2017A $1 Federal Reserve Note continues the enduring legacy of the small-size dollar design first introduced in 1929. Featuring George Washington, this note reflects both historical continuity and subtle production updates, including reformulated inks that distinguish it from the original 2017 series.

While ubiquitous in circulation, collectors seek out star notes, fancy serial numbers, and error varieties from this series for their scarcity and visual appeal. Notably, the 2017A series was printed at both the Washington, D.C. and Fort Worth facilities, with serial number ranges and star note distributions varying by district

Design Highlights

Obverse: Portrait of George Washington based on Gilbert Stuart’s iconic painting. Includes green Treasury seal, serial numbers, and the signatures of Treasurer Jovita Carranza and Secretary Steven Mnuchin. The ornate scrollwork and Federal Reserve Bank identifier remain consistent with prior issues.

Reverse: Displays the Great Seal of the United States—the Eye of Providence atop the unfinished pyramid on the left, and the bald eagle with shield on the right. The motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is prominently featured.

Color Scheme: Traditional green and black ink on off-white cotton-linen paper, maintaining the classic aesthetic of U.S. currency.
